The attorney general has ordered that the assets of 52 police officers be frozen. He also banned them from travel and charged them with profiteering, abuse of power, and having been convicted of torture.

In related news, the Cairo Court of Appeal on Wednesday allowed the attorney general to check the bank accounts of businessman Hussein Salem and his family. Salem is a close friend of ousted President Hosni Mubarak.

Judicial sources said prosecutors decided to summon former minister of agriculture Youssef Wali, former minister of tourism Zoheir Garrana and businessman Hisham al-Hazeq, all of whom are charged with seizing state-owned land.
