Gamal Amer, the son of former Vice President Abdel Hakim Amer under the late Egyptian leader Gamal Abdel Nasser, has revealed that the attorney general opened a secret investigation in August into his father’s death.
Amer also said that ousted President Hosni Mubarak had sent his chief of presidential staff, Zakariya Azmy, to tell him that he was against reopening the investigation into the issue.
“I appreciate the decision of the attorney general,” Amer said. “I believe my father was killed and did not commit suicide as was claimed then.
“Among the documents I presented to the attorney general was a report by a renowned doctor of forensics confirming that my father was killed,” he said.
