Security forces have foiled three separate attempts by African migrants to enter Israel illegally since Sunday, according to a security source.
“The first attempt took place Sunday, as 39 Sudanese nationals were trying to cross into Israel near the Karam Salem border crossing,” said security source, adding that police then foiled a second attempt by a group of three people.
A third attempt by another 10 people — five Ethiopians and five Sudanese nationals — was foiled on Monday in central Sinai, the source added.
All 52 people were arrested. They admitted attempting to enter Israel in search of job opportunities, and said that they each paid US$1200 each to smugglers to help them.
