Aswan University’s Deputy Dean of Law Faculty commits suicide in campus

The Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Law in Aswan University committed suicide by jumping from the fifth floor of the faculty staff’s rest house on Saturday.

Aswan University’s Head of Security Directorate Fatah Allah Hosni received a report from the University hospital stating that they brought in the 46-year-old law professor in critical condition. The report added that he passed away during attempts to resuscitate him. The body was then transferred to the Aswan morgue.

An investigation team led by Brigadier General Osama Helmi, director of the investigations department, was formed soon after the incident took place. Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased suffered from mental illness and seizures, which eventually drove him to commit suicide.

The Aswan prosecutions office has been notified on the incident, while the family of the victim has been summoned to give testimonies.
