Aswan solar energy projects add 1,965 MW to national grid

Aswan Governor Ismail Kamal emphasized the significant advancements in solar energy projects under the New Republic, thanks to the support and directives of the political leadership.

In statements to MENA, he highlighted that solar energy has become a national security priority, enabling the state to achieve self-sufficiency in the energy sector.

The transformation began with the Benban Solar Energy Project, which now comprises 32 solar stations contributing approximately 1,465 MW to the national grid. “This capacity is expected to reach 2,050 MW with future expansions”.

Following Benban, the Abidos Solar Energy Project in Fares Village, Kom Ombo, is currently delivering 300 MW to the national grid, with a planned capacity of 500 MW. Additionally, the Saudi solar power station in Fares, operated by ACWA Power, adds 200 MW. Combined, these three projects have a total output of 1,965 MW, with potential for further expansion.

The governor said that presidential directives and instructions from Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli focus on providing full support to serious investors. “Aswan encourages investment in renewable energy, particularly projects that consider the social impact on local communities.”
