Mohamed Omar Wahby, head of the Cabinet’s Administrative Control Authority, has said that frozen assets in Switzerland and England amount of a value of US$934 million associated with more than 200 figures affiliated to the former regime.
Speaking at the fourth conference for the Arab Anti-Corruption and Integrity Network, held in Beirut, Wahby said all measures are being taken to recover these assets.
The authority has filed around 2850 reports to investigation authorities following the January revolution, he said, adding that the authority played an important role in most of the cases brought against former regime figures. He suggests that the authority is the only body in the country who, in collaboration with Interior Ministry’s public funds department, has unveiled financial corruption issues.
The Cabinet authority filed more than two thousand reports to prosecution and more than 700 to the Illicit Gains Authority, he said.
Wahby denied claims that the authority has evidence of the precise wealth of the Mubarak family, although estimates circulated in the media put it at around US$40-70 billion.
Wahby refused to put a figure to the wealth of Mubarak and his family.
