As students return from Ukraine, Egyptian families rejoice

The families of Egyptian students returning from Ukraine rejoined as they welcomed their children, who journeyed long to Romania across the Ukrainian border to escape the war between the Russian and Ukraine.

Dozens of families came to Cairo International airport to greet the returnees, relieved at their safety amidst the escalating crisis.

The students thanked the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and all state officials for their tireless efforts in working to maintain their safety.

Air Cairo, affiliated with the Civil Aviation Ministry, announced that a flight of an Airbus A320, carrying 175 Egyptian students, and 6 from the Red Crescent and quarantine team, was heading to Cairo Airport to return the Egyptian students who are in Romania to the homeland.

Ahmed Ibrahim Zahran, a student in the fourth year of dentistry in Ukraine, from Kafr el-Sheikh, praised President Sisi’s eagerness to preserve Egyptians everywhere, and his work in return Egyptian students from Ukraine while following up on their conditions until they are back.

“We were treated the best by Egyptian officials in Ukraine. All the students felt fear with the start of the war between the Russian and Ukrainian sides, and with the first hours of the war, I and some of my colleagues in the city of Dnipro decided to establish a group on WhatsApp to invite everyone to return to Egypt for fear for our lives, and the response was quick from the Foreign Ministry and the Egyptian Embassy,” Zahran said.

Mohamed Salah, the father of one of the returnees, said that his son is studying at a medical college in eastern Ukraine in an area that witnessed violent hostilities. He thanked the Egyptian authorities for the speed of movement and transferring them from Ukraine.
