Army vehicles roamed the streets of Cairo and Giza Tuesday to call on citizens to vote in the presidential election set to begin Wednesday.
An Egypt Independent reporter saw soldiers on loudspeakers imploring people to vote, while riding an armored personnel vehicle in Tahrir Square. A report on privately owned news website Al-Shorouk said a military convoy was driving through the streets of Medinat Nasr for the same purpose.
The Al-Shorouk report said the procession included a vehicle with mounted loudspeakers, followed by an army jeep and armored vehicle featuring the Egyptian flag.
Through the loudspeakers a voice repeated the following: “O citizens, participate in the election to choose a president — your vote is a responsibility and is essential in determining the fate of the country.”
Elsewhere in Cairo, witnesses told Egypt Independent that a number of buses carrying army soldiers were parked in front of schools that are designated to be used as polling stations.
