Judicial sources at 6th of October City Prosecution office said on Wednesday that they had been notified by the security services, about the death of four women and the injury of 20 other people by an army vehicle behind the police station of Sheikh Zayed in 6th of October City.
The army was distributing free food to the residents ahead of Ramadan, including oil, sugar and other commodities. When they ran out of the stock, the people assembled around the vehicle insisted to take a share, but the driver moved the car, killing four and injuring 20 others, security sources said.
The sources added that the incident was referred to the military prosecution.
The driver was arrested and the injured were transferred to the hospital.
According to preliminary investigations and the driver's testimony, a brake failure occured as the vehicle moved. The driver stressed that he could not stop the car.
