Army starts construction of highway between East Port Said, Sokhna ports

The army is constructing a highway to link the ports of the Suez Canal development zone, from East Port Said to Sokhna.

The highway, which will be 320 km, is estimated to cost LE4 billion.

Adel Tork, head of the Roads and Bridges Authority, said the engineering division of the Armed Forces began constructing the highway from the entrance of the new tunnels in Port Said to the Ismailia-Cairo desert road, the Suez-Cairo road and the Ain Sokhna port.

He added that the Transport Ministry began the second phase of the 520-kilometer-National Roads Project, which includes the Taba-Sharm el-Sheikh road, the Al-Tor axis and the Sharm el-Sheikh-Oyoun Moussa road.

He also said the Wadi Natrun-Alamein road is expected to be completed by the end of the year, while 140 kilometers of the Upper Egypt-Red Sea road have already been completed.
