On Wednesday, gunmen killed an Egyptian soldier at Salah Eddin Square in Rafah, North Sinai.
Authorities are searching the area for the perpetrators.
The army has been combating extremist groups in the area and endured several bloody attacks since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsy.
Wednesday's attack comes as Egypt votes for the last day to select a new president.
