Army officer, 2 soldiers killed in North Sinai bombing

An Armed Forces vehicle was blown up at the al-Mahdeya checkpoint in Rafah City, killing an army officer and two soldiers and injuring two others, security sources told Al-Masry Al-Youm Monday.

Further details were not disclosed.

The Sinai peninsula had seen recurrent deadly attacks against army and police troops since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi in 2013. Most of the attacks have been claimed by Islamic State affiliate, the Sinai Province. Hundreds on both sides of the conflict have been killed during these confrontations, with many civilians also killed in the crossfire.
