Armed forces officer killed, 3 conscripts injured in bomb blast in Sinai

An armed forces officer was killed, three conscripts were injured on Thursday as a result of a bomb blast that occurred while an armored vehicle was passing by in the city of Sheikh Zuwayed, North Sinai.
 
Security source said in remarks that unidentified militants planted the bomb at al-Wahshy area and remotely exploded it while the vehicle was passing, leaving the officer, 48, killed and the three others injured.
 
The injured were transferred to Arish military hospital for treatment. Authorities in question were notified to conduct investigations.
 
The economically underdeveloped area of North Sinai has experienced increased militant activity since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsy and the violent Rabaa al-Adaweya and Nadha sit-in dispersals by the army. The new army-backed President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has vowed to eradicate terrorism and develop the area.
