The Egyptian Armed Forces arrested an Italian national it said was trying to photograph a military facility located in a central district of Cairo.
The state-owned Middle East News Agency (MENA), which reported the incident on Wednesday, said that the Italian was referred by the armed forces to the relevant authorities for investigation. The Italian was allegedly photographing from on top of the 6 October Bridge. MENA gave no further details.
On Monday, Egyptian authorities arrested four American journalists as they were photographing anti-government protests in front of the Suez Canal. Brigadier General Omar Imam said the journalists were detained by "a group of citizens who handed them over to military intelligence in Suez."
