The influx of Arab tourists has surged by 15 percent during the first half of 2015, Egypt’s tourism body has said.
Samy Mahmoud, head of the Egyptian Tourism Authority, told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the increase in Arab visitors compared to the same period last year was supported by the increase in the number of hotel nights spent.
According to Mahmoud, the average expenditure by an Arab tourist stands at US$100-$150 per night.
The authority has also recorded a 9 percent increase in overall tourism during the first half of the current year.
Egypt has been struggling to revive tourism, a main source of national income, amid security concerns caused by two popular uprisings in 2011 and 2013.
