Arab princes offer to pay Mubarak’s hospital bill

Health Ministry Undersecretary Hisham Shiha said certain princes from the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia offered to pay the hospital bill of deposed President Hosni Mubarak, when they heard the Egyptian government would not meet the costs of his medical treatment.

He added that Law 396 of 1956 stipulates that detainees pending investigation are treated for free in prison hospitals or another public hospital, but not in private ones like the Sharm el-Sheikh International Hospital, where Mubarak currently resides.

The director of the hospital, Mohamed Fathallah, said Mubarak’s condition is stable and his morale is improving. He also said that the committee tasked with examining Mubarak in order to decide if he can be tranferred to prison has not yet arrived.
