Arab League meeting to discuss violence against demonstrators

The Arab League plans to hold an emergency meeting of foreign ministers on 8 May to discuss recent acts of violence against demonstrators in various Arab countries, and to decide whether the next Arab summit, slated for 11 May, is to go ahead as planned.

Diplomatic sources said the ministers will discuss taking a unified stance against violence in Syria, Libya and Yemen.

The league has been criticized for being passive vis-a-vis these incidents, a mistake which some say could open the door to increased foreign intervention.
