The Arab League announced on Sunday that its council will hold an emergency meeting at the level of its permanent delegates on Monday to examine the developments in the region with particular focus on the situation in Egypt.
The meeting will be headed by Iraqi permanent delegate to the Arab League Qais al-Azzawi, since his country is currently presiding over the Arab League's ministerial council.
This is the first official meeting for the Arab League since protests first broke out in Egypt on 25 January. Several Arab League meetings that were supposed to be held at the Arab League's headquarters in Tahrir Square were postponed due to the massive protests.
The third Arab-Latin American summit–originally scheduled to be held in Peru on 16 February–was also postponed, as was also the International Conference on Jerusalem, which was to convene in Doha on 2 and 3 February.
