Antiquities czar: ‘Gospel of Judas’ won’t be displayed in museums

The so-called "Gospel of Judas," which US authorities handed over to Egypt in July, will not be displayed in any Egyptian museums, Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) Secretary-General Zahi Hawas said on Monday.

“We will keep the manuscript in storage at the Coptic Museum out of respect for the feelings of Egypt's Coptic Christians,” Hawas said, noting that the alleged gospel contained material deemed disparaging to the Christan faith.

“Nevertheless, we're currently in talks with US and Swiss authorities about retrieving the missing parts of the gospel, which is recognized as being part of Egypt's heritage,” he added.
