Anti-Morsy protesters pack up Nasr City sit-in

Protesters at the Memorial of the Unknown Soldier in Nasr City ended their sit-in Thursday against President Mohamed Morsy and the Muslim Brotherhood in anticipation of the new Cabinet.

They had been calling for new presidential elections and the dissolution of the Brotherhood, among other demands. Demonstrators removed their tents while loudspeakers kept playing patriotic songs and chants supporting former presidential candidate Ahmed Shafiq, who lost the run-off election to Morsy.

Participants told Al-Masry Al-Youm that they are prepared to continue their sit-in if newly appointed Prime Minister Hesham Qandil and the Cabinet he is expected to announce Thursday are unable to achieve the demands of the people. They also plan to hold Morsy to his 100-day plan, saying he must deliver tangible results.

Protest leader Mosatafa al-Ghandour said the main motivation behind the sit-in was to demand the dissolution of the Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party and Morsy's removal from office.

Other protesters sat on the ground chanting “Down with the rule of Supreme Guide,” referring to Brotherhood leader Mohamed Badie. They also held pictures of Morsy on a crucifix, bearing the slogan, “No to Morsy, no to Qandil … we want the alternative."
