Anti-human trafficking legislation approved in principle

The Shura Council approved on Sunday legislation that opposes human trafficking in principle.

"Human trafficking has become the third largest illegal business in terms of profits after arms dealing and narcotics," said council speaker Safwat el-Sherif.

"The World Labor Organization says more than half a million women and one million boys and girls under the age of 18 are forced to engage in prostitution activity all over the world," el-Sherif said, pointing out that thousands of children are used by terrorists for suicide attacks or mine fields detection.

"And there are a million homeless children on the streets of Egypt that are prone to such abuse," he added.
