For the first time in Egypt, a festival aimed at reducing animal cruelty will be held this weekend at the Equestrian Club of the Armed Forces in Nasr City, Cairo.
The Animal Mercy Festival will include discussions, lectures, and pet adoption services.
The festival will discuss the government’s important role in passing laws and spreading awareness for the fair treatment of animals and present stories of animal rescue in Egypt.
A section of the festival has been allocated for those who have an animal they want to put up for adoption.
Lectures on the foundations of dealing with pets will be presented, and various adopters of stray dogs, animal rescuers, and animal rights and welfare associations in Egypt will be honored, including the Egyptian Society for Mercy to Animals (ESMA).
Festival host Dina Zulfiqar, an animal rights activist, will deliver a lecture entitled “Mercy to Humans, Animals, and Plants”— a message she swears by and hopes to implement across the country.
Her co-host, Dr. Hatem Sitteen, nicknamed “The Doctor of Mercy” will give a lecture on the torture of horses in Egypt and how to save a dying animal.
The festival’s management is offering free attendance for those who wish to adopt out their animals.
The gates will open at 3 pm, followed by the event’s adoption event.
At 5 pm, Zulfiqar will speak, with rescue stories taking the stage at 6 pm. Afterwards, at 7 pm, Sitten will give his lecture, and at 8 pm the animal rights activists will be honored.
