American actress and ambassador to the United Nations for Refugees Angelina Jolie has warned of the Islamic State's (IS) sexual and physical crimes against women in the countries that have fallen under their control.
Jolie said during her speech in front of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, that IS depends on rape as an approach in managing its war in the Middle East, being a strong and effective weapon for wearing down the peoples of the region. Rape is not only used sexually, but as means of violence and a dirty war weapon, according to Jolie.
Jolie described IS as the most dangerous terrorist organization in the world today, adding that no terrorist organization has used the rape of women this way before.
She called for a decisive action to confront the group in Iraq and Syria.
Jolie said that during her visits to refugee camps in Syria and Iraq she heard several stories of the rape and abduction of women who were sold to IS fighters.
