Sami Anan, former Armed Forces chief of staff, denied rumors that he fled the country for the United Arab Emirates.
He is still living his daily life, has not been banned from traveling and has not been informed of any charges being pressed against him, Anan told Al-Masry Al-Youm Thursday evening.
President Mohamed Morsy sent Anan into retirement in mid-August, a move welcomed by revolutionary groups that have demanded that members of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces face legal action for their mismanagement of the country during the transitional period.
The satellite TV channel Al-Hayat reported Wednesday that Anan had flown to the Emirates. Cairo International Airport dismissed the report as false.
Earlier this month, Public Prosecutor Abdel Meguid Mahmoud referred a complaint against Anan to the Illicit Gains Authority to verify accusations relating to illegal gains and property acquisition.
