Algerian boxer Imane Khalif qualified on Tuesday evening for the final round of the Paris 2024 Olympics Games currently being held in France.
The 33rd edition of the Olympics Games began on July 26, and will end on August 11.
Khelif defeated the Thai champion Janjaem Suwannapheng in the semi-finals of the 66 kg weight in women’s boxing.
The result of the match was 5-0 for the Algerian boxer by unanimous decision of the five referees.
With this result, Khelif qualified for the final round of the ongoing Paris Olympics, officially securing Algeria’s second medal in the Olympics, following Kalia Nemour’s gold in gymnastics.
Khelif faced controversy on her road to the Olympics finals, having been accused of having “male chromosomes”, causing outrage and demands that she be dropped from the Olympics.
The Algerian boxer on Saturday commented on the controversy surrounding her participation in the women’s boxing competitions at Paris Olympic Games.
In statements made to the Qatari beIN Sports network, the boxer said: “This is a matter of dignity and honor that concerns every woman, and the Arab people have known me for years.”
