Residents of Mahdy el-Abbasy Street in Alexandria fought yesterday for spots in line at bakeries. Eight people were injured in a battle that saw the use of knives, swords and glass bottles.
The injured were taken to the Alexandria University Hospital.
The Muharram Bek police station received a report notifying that a bakery, a number of shops, and six cars had been smashed in the fighting. Traffic was brought to a halt for two hours.
Owners of the smashed vehicles submitted a police report.
Mohamed Attiya, the police prosecutor at Muharram Bek, ordered the detention of six people for their participation in the fight and the arrest of another six who are suspected based on pre-existing criminal investigations.
