The Alexandria Governorate issued a statement on Monday regarding rough sea conditions expected on Tuesday, in light of the warning issued by the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA).
The statement implored citizens to exercise caution, as weather forecasts indicate heavy disruption to maritime navigation in some areas of the Mediterranean coast, particularly in Marsa Matrouh, el-Alamein, Alexandria, and Baltim.
It was decided to close beaches on Tuesday until weather conditions improve and to ensure the safety of citizens, the statement added.
The Central Administration for Tourism and Resorts in Alexandria announced on Monday that waves were dangerously high, and that the red flag had been raised on all beaches in the Western and Agamy sectors for the third consecutive day following the drowning of incident at Abu-Talat beach.
The administration confirmed that bathing in the sea is strictly prohibited, but that visitors are permitted to bathe on the sandy beaches of the western sector.
The yellow flag was raised at the beaches of the eastern sector, allowing for swimming in safe areas designated by lifeguards and prohibiting pedal boats from entering the sea.
