Amid a spike in COVID-19 cases, Vice President of the Dairy Producers Division in the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce Ehab Sharabiah has launched a campaign to call on all Egyptians to adhere to the government’s precautionary measures.
In remarks to Al-Masry Al-Youm on Wednesday, Sharabiah said that his initiative, titled “Do the Right Thing and Stay Positive.. Help Instead of Criticizing”, aims to encourage people to do their part to stay safe during the pandemic and stop criticizing the situation in the street.
Everyone is responsible for following precautionary measures, and personal opinions on the matter should not be set aside for the greater good, he said.
Sharabiah expressed his desire for everyone to do the right thing, saying that a week of all Egyptians following precautionary measures could return the country to pre-pandemic conditions.
He hopes that the initiative will bring cooperation, participation, and inspiration to follow the good example of others.
In regards to criticism, Sharabiah urged the public to focus on themselves and what they can do, rather than blaming others for the situation.
Finally, he stated that the initiative will be respected and appreciated by countries abroad and hopefully yield positive results that contribute to attracting more foreign investments to Egypt.
The initiative comes as the Egyptian government and Health Ministry came under fire on social media after the release of a video showing motionless COVID-19 patients in an isolation ward, all of whom had apparently died from a lack of oxygen supply.
Local government authorities and the ministry denied a lack of oxygen supplies, stating that the patients died from preexisting conditions.
Egypt on Tuesday announced 1,119 new coronavirus cases and 55 deaths.
The country has now reported 144,583 cases, 7,918 deaths, and 115,414 recovered cases.
