Alaa Abdel-Fattah’s “Shura Council” trial postponed to 10 September

The Cairo Criminal Court on Wednesday postponed the retrial of political activist Alaa Abdel-Fattah and 25 others in the Shura Council violence case to 10 September, keeping the defendants detained and withholding the 15-year imprisonment sentence and the LE100,000 fine for defendant No. 12 and defendant No. 13.

The court ordered that the prosecution witnesses should attend the coming session and the Interior Ministry technical expert review the CDs of the case.

The defendants are charged with assaulting police officer Emad Tahoun and stealing his walkie talkie, organizing a demonstration without permission outside the Shura Council, blocking roads and damaging public property.

Abdel Fattah is a prominent opponent to the ruling regimes that followed the ouster of President Hosni Mubarak in the 2011 revolution.
