Sayed al-Suerky, the owner of the Al-Tawhid Wal Nour department store was referred to a misdemeanor court on Thursday on charges of insulting the Egyptian flag, according to Law No. 41 of 2014 that was issued by former Interim President Adly Mansour.
A number of citizens had filed complaints against Suerky three months ago.
The court is convening on 12 January.
Investigations allege that the defendant deliberately insulted the flag by printing it on shoe soles.
