Al-Shorouk newspaper journalists continue strike

Journalists from Al-Shorouk newspaper are continuing their general strike for the second day running, protesting the fact that they have not been paid their salaries and bonuses since September.

All the departments of the newspaper are taking part in the strike, resulting in the last issue being published with 12 instead of 16 pages.

Editor Mohamed Abdel Hafiz said the editors are not striking. “This does not mean we disagree with the journalists,” he said. “But we do have a responsibility towards our readers.”

He attributed the delay in payment to the advertising agency failing to pay its dues to the newspaper.

For his part, Khaled al-Balshy of the Journalists' Syndicate said he will intervene to solve the problem and give the journalists their rights.
