Al-Nour Party to send presidential candidate questionnaire to Anan

Yasser al-Borhamy, vice president of the Salafi Dawah, said the Salafi Nour Party will send the questionnaire it had devised to assess the qualifications of the presidential elections candidates to Marshal Sami Anan, the former chief of staff of the Armed Forces, who is running in the elections.

“Anan is like any other candidate,” he said. “He will have to meet the requirements of the questionnaire like all the rest.”

“We already met with Hamdeen Sabbahi and discussed a few issues,” he added. “And we will send the questionnaire to Field Marshal Abdel Fattah al-Sisi if he announces his candidacy.”

Borhamy said there is no certain candidate of the Islamist forces. “We, the largest Islamist party, do not support a particular candidate,” he said, adding that it is not true the party supports Anan. “We may support him if he meets the requirements,”

He appealed to Ana to consult the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces before deciding his candidacy.

“The Muslim Brotherhood would nominate Anan, not because they like him, but so as to divide the military if Sisi decides to run in the elections,” he contended.

Sources within the Salafi movement said the majority members are supporting Anan, especially those who are against the policies of Borhamy.

Meanwhile, Ahmed Badie, a leading figure of the National Alliance to Support Legitimacy, that Anan would be a major obstacle for Sisi, adding that the alliance did not yet take a decision in this regard.
