CAIRO, June 18 (MENA) – Al Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed al-Tayyeb called for considering the adequacy and efficacy of legislation and charters on combating intolerance and hatred and ensuring guarantees to adhere to them in light of the offensive remarks made by the spokesman of the Indian ruling party against Muslims and Prophet Muhammad.
Tayyeb’s call came on Saturday in a post published on Facebook and a tweet on Twitter on the occasion of the International Day for Countering Hate Speech.
The grand imam noted that the international day comes in conjunction with the increase in waves of intolerance and hatred against Muslims and the mocking of their religious symbols and sanctities. (MENA)
