Al-Ahly’s Emam Ashour sentenced to 6 months in prison over assaulting security guard

New developments have emerged in the case of Al-Ahly player Emam Ashour, who has been arrested for assaulting a security guard in a famous mall in the Sheikh Zayed area in Giza Governorate back in June.

Sheikh Zayed Misdemeanor Court ruled, on Tuesday, to imprison Ashour for six months, after accepting the Public Prosecution’s appeal against his acquittal.

The court had previously ruled to acquit the player, but the prosecution decided to appeal the ruling.

Ashour’s lawyer and Al-Ahly Club’s legal advisor, Mohamed Othman, said that he was not notified of Tuesday’s court session in the legal manner, and that the ruling issued against the player was in absentia.

He also revealed that he intends to appeal against the recent court ruling.

The Public Prosecution had accused Ashour of assaulting and injuring a security guard.

The player responded to the accusation by saying that the incident was a tug of war that led to the security guard falling to the ground.

He added that he received a call from his wife, Yasmine Hafez, telling him that “a group of young men harassed her and that security did not intervene,” so he went to the mall and was prevented from entering.

Ashour then said that he snatched “The mobile phone that was in the possession of the victim security guard because he was filming him while he and others were there,” because he wanted to see the people his wife said had harassed her.
