The Lufthansa Airlines Group announced in a Monday statement that it has suspended its flights to the Lebanese capital Beirut until July 30 due to rising tensions in the region.
The company added that the group’s flights, which include the Swiss International Air Lines, Eurowings and Lufthansa, were suspended “as a precautionary measure.”
A large number of passengers traveling through the Beirut International Airport said that their flights had been canceled.
Lebanon’s Middle East Airlines also said on Monday that the irregularity of its flights was related to insurance risks amid rising tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, causing some flights to be cancelled or delayed at Beirut airport.
The Royal Jordanian Airlines announced the cancellation of its flights to Beirut on Monday and Tuesday.
This follows after a missile attack that killed 12 people in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights on Saturday, raising fears of a full-scale war between Israel and the Iranian-backed Hezbollah.
The Israeli Security Cabinet authorized the government headed by Benjamin Netanyahu to respond to the attack.
Germany on Monday called on its citizens to leave Lebanon immediately, after the Israeli Prime Minister threatened Hezbollah.
