Cardiologist consultant, Amr Osman, one of the medical supervisors of the Modern Future Club player Ahmed Refaat said that the player is suffering from a rare condition.
Refaat’s situation is unprecedented, he stated, with the maximum that doctors previously dealt with was resuscitation for 45 minutes.
Osman explained that, “He was resuscitated for two full hours, a condition that doctors had not known about before, and every time he was resuscitated, the player’s heartbeat accelerated, returning to point zero, and we began again the cardiac resuscitation phase. The heart’s condition returned to point zero once more approximately every five minutes.”
Regarding his current condition, Osman said that the status of his kidneys are under close follow-up while there is concern over his lungs, but the final results have not yet been confirmed.
The player now maintains some level of awareness, he said, as previously indicated by the the President of the Modern Future Club Walid Dabas in a telephone interview.
Osman added that Refaat is still on respirators, which are improving his condition and grant him a normal degree of breathing over time.
He urged the following up of all athletes specifically with a therapeutic nutritionist and specialized fitness trainers before eating anything specifically before matches and practicing intense sports activities.
