Ahly Club has received an official offer from a British Premier League team to recruit Ahly midfielder Ahmed Fathy at the beginning of the winter transfer period.
Ahmed Rafa'i, a representative of Four Steps Sports Agency, said that a delegation from a British football team has offered Ahly Club 1.5 million British pounds to buy the 25-year old midfielder who is also a key player in Egypt’s national team.
He added that Fathy will receive one million British pounds in the first season.
Refa’I, however, declined to disclose the name of the British team.
He said that the British delegation was keen on watching Fathy during Wednesday’s match between Australia and Egypt’s national team.
Rafa'I said that there is a preliminary agreement to transfer Fathy, since he is entitled to sign with any club during January and to end his contract with Ahly at the end of this season.
In August, media reports suggested that Fathy might move to West Ham United for 1.5 million British pounds.
Fathy had an unsuccessful spell with Sheffield United in 2007, making just three appearances in an entire season before returning to Egypt to join Ahly.
Fathy was a member of the Egyptian team that won the African Cup of Nations in 2006, 2008 and 2010.
