Ahly defeats Pyramids, secures Egyptian Super Cup title for the 13th time

The Al-Ahly Sporting Club won the Egyptian Football Super Cup for the 13th time in its history, defeating the Pyramids 1-0 in the match that brought them together on Friday at Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi.

The original time of the match ended in a goalless draw, and the two teams resorted to the extra time. The Tunisian international defender Ali Maaloul scored the winning goal for Ahly from a penalty kick in the sixth minute of the first extra half.

Ahly, led by its Swiss coach, Marcel Koller, maintained the title that it achieved last October at the expense of Zamalek.

Ahly was scheduled to play the Egyptian Super Cup for this season against Zamalek, but the later withdrew due to “favoritism” from the local federation against the team, after which the Egyptian Federation decided to enroll Pyramids for the final.
