AG investigates corruption complaint against Moussa and Suleiman

The attorney general on Wednesday ordered an investigation into a complaint against former officials accusing them of political corruption and involvement in a gas deal with Israel.

Judicial sources on Thursday said that the complaint accused former Intelligence chief Omar Suleiman, former Foreign Minister Amr Moussa, and former Prime Minister Atef Ebeid of abusing their power to pressure the government to approve a gas deal for businessman Hussein Salem.

The sources said the complaint includes documents that prove the officials' involvement. The complaint alleged Moussa and Suleiman issued direct orders to hasten the gas deal’s approval.

Egypt has requested Salem's extradition from Spain on allegations related to the gas deal.
