The African Union on Tuesday requested the High Elections Committee (HEC) to approve its supervision of the Egyptian presidential elections on 26 and 27 May.
HEC Secretary General Abdel Aziz Salman said the chairman of the African Union Mission is presenting an official letter with the request on Tuesday.
“The chairman is fully assured that the elections will go well,” he said.
Salman also said the committee is completing preparations for expatriate Egyptians to cast their votes from 15 to 18 May. “We sent e-readers to our diplomatic missions all over the world to facilitate the process,” he said.
This is the first presidential election since the overthrow of President Mohamed Morsy, which had prompted the suspension of Egypt's membership in the union.
