Giza Criminal Court sentenced former Interior Minister Habib al-Adly to 12 years in prison Thursday, after convicting him of money laundering, profiteering, and abusing power.
The former minister was also fined LE10.4 million and had LE4.1 million of his wealth confiscated.
The verdict came after four court sessions, during which Adly and his defense team denied all charges.
Security measures were intensified within and outside of the courtroom during the trial.
Adly is scheduled to return to court on 21 May for a second trial on charges he ordered the killing of protesters during the revolution. He is also accused of spreading chaos in the country by ordering a controversial withdrawal of police forces nationwide on 28 January.
