Actor Ahmed Ezz sentenced to three years in prison over defaming Zeina

The Nasr City Misdemeanor Court upheld on Saturday the three-year sentence handed to actor Ahmed Ezz over his defamation of actress Zeina.

Ezz earlier challenged the sentence and LE15,000 fine made against him in absentia, over defaming the actress.

Moataz al-Dakar, Zeina’s lawyer, commented saying, “thank god for the fair verdict. We trust the justice [ruling] of the Egyptian judiciary.”

He added that his client, Zeina, cried out of happiness after hearing the verdict.

The lawyer previously filed a lawsuit against Ezz over defaming Zeina at Nasr City Court, after he claimed he was not the real father of Zeina’s twins, which is considered a defamation of Zeina. Accordingly, the court handed him the three-year sentence.

The Nasr City Family Court issued a verdict on June 25 last year, saying that the twins of actress Zeina were proven to be the children of Ezz.

It compelled Ezz to recognize his paternal responsibilities, allowing Zeina to issue birth certificates and other official documents for the children.

Ezz pays his children's monthly expenses in accordance with the ruling.

Zeina had filed a lawsuit against Ezz saying that she married him on June 15, 2012, and that the twins are his children.
