Activists launch campaign to collect, sort Alexandria garbage

Several activists in Alexandria have launched a campaign to remove garbage called "Egypt will not fall into the garbage."

The campaign aims to collect and sort garbage. It started in Alexandria and will be launched in other governorates, said campaign coordinator Alaa Ghonim.

The campaign is working with plastics factories for the recycling process and has already started collecting garbage in the Sidi Beshr area, he said.

Ghonim said residents sort their garbage in plastic bags and campaign activists wait at people's homes daily from 5 am to 7 am to retrieve the garbage. Residents who cooperate with the campaign receive LE1 a day in return for the sorting, he mentioned. The campaign is funded by the factories benefiting from the sorted garbage, he added.

Ghonim also called on the Alexandria governor to cooperate with the campaign by providing a means of transport for the garbage.
