Activist Ahmed Maher, founder of the 6 April Youth Movement, is released on Sunday. He had been detained for demonstrating outside the Shura Council without permission in violation of the new protest law. He was also charged with thuggery and assault on security forces.
Maher had turned himself in on Saturday.
Meanwhile, activist Alaa Abdel Fattah was remanded in custody on Sunday for 15 days pending investigation into charges of inciting protests outside the Shura Council last Tuesday.
