Abdel Rahman el-Abnudi dies

Famous Egyptian poet Abdel Rahman el-Abnudi passed away on Tuesday afternoon after a long battle with illness. He was 76 years old.
 
His wife, Nihad Kamal, said the post-funeral reception will be held in Ismailia on Wednesday.
 
“I noticed a significant deterioration in his health,” she said. “I knew he was going to die today.”
 
Abnoudi was the most famous author of vernacular poetry in Egypt. Among his most famous books was “My Sweet Days” in which he recounts the story of his life in Upper Egypt. “Earth and the Children”, written in 1964, “The Crowd” in 1967, “Arab Colonialism” in 1991 and “Death on the Asphalt” were among his most famous poems.
 
He won the Mahmoud Darwish Award for Arab Innovation in 2014.
