Journalists Syndicate mid-term elections–in which the head of the Syndicate and six new board members are elected–took place on Friday after the quorum was reached.

Journalists arrived at the journalist headquarters at 10 am for registration to the general assembly. Police tightened security outside the premises, organizing the traffic around the cordoned off area. Qallash and Salama were also in attendance.

There was fierce competition between outgoing chief Yehia Qallash and Salama for the head post.

Upon winning the post, Salama spoke to Al-Masry Al-Youm, saying he will work hard on serving all journalists without discrimination, bringing back prestige to the syndicate and providing journalists with all the services needed, he promised.
