The Freedom and Justice Party’s office in the village of Mit Kenana in Qalyubiya was allegedly stormed and raided by local residents who smashed computers and furniture, reported the independent newspaper Al-Shorouk on Wednesday.
The FJP’s Mohamed Desouky had called for a town meeting to discuss problems experienced by residents of the governorate, but the townspeople attacked the party’s office instead, causing the FJP members present at the meeting to flee.
According to the police report, the village residents had warned the party members more than once not to hold meetings in the village, but the members held the meeting nonetheless.
Local residents have repeatedly voiced opposition to the establishment of an FJP office in their town, said police.
