The Catholic Church in Egypt on Tuesday stressed its impartiality toward candidates competing in the presidential election scheduled for 23 and 24 May, saying it respects its followers’ freedom to choose their favorites.
The Catholic Holy Synod urged Egyptians to participate in the polls and voiced confidence in their ability to choose a candidate who would best serve the country.
The Catholic patriarchs hoped Egypt’s next president would lead the country in respect to democracy, freedoms and equality.
