Parliamentary delegation to visit Saudi Arabia to revive relations

A parliamentary delegation will visit Saudi Arabia on Wednesday to meet with King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz and a number of Saudi officials to discuss the recent developments in relations between the two countries, which led to the withdrawal of the Saudi ambassador to Cairo and the closure of its embassy and two consulates in Egypt.

Ahmed Fahmy, speaker of the Shura Council, said the delegation will include the speaker of the People's Assembly and Shura Council as well as a number of MPs, public figures and representatives of political parties and various political forces in Egypt.

Shura Council majority leader and Freedom and Justice Party MP Ali Fath al-Bab said the delegation will focus on emphasizing the depth of the brotherly and historical relations between the two countries and the need to enhance these relations and resolve any misunderstandings.

He added that the delegation would also be discussing the conditions and problems facing Egyptians living in Saudi Arabia.

Fath al-Bab criticized the manner in which the Egyptian government handled the crisis, pointing out that the Saudi government also criticized the Egyptian government’s position.

“Our Saudi brothers resent this and we agree with them in that,” he said, adding that Parliament has been communicating with the Saudis since the crisis began.
