Following his exclusion from the presidential race Saturday evening conservative lawyer and preacher Hazem Salah Abu Ismail said the ruling Supreme Council of Armed Forces included former vice president and intelligence chief Omar Suleiman in the list of disqualified candidates to “cover” their interference in the elections.
In a phone call to a program on the Hakma Channel, Abu Ismail said he faces "arrogance and intransigence" from the Presidential Election Committee.
Abu Ismail said he would submit his appeal of the decision Sunday morning.
He asked for patience from his supporters, saying “ Wait until tomorrow, right now, our hands are tied.”
Abu Ismail also threatened to expose cases of bribery and fraud among top officials in the country.
“I know of cases of bribery and election fraud in the case of both the trade union elections and the People’s Assembly elections,” he said. “ I will announce them in detail.”
In the interview, Abu Ismail also accused the committee of changing its position on his candidacy.
“The committee promised me in the beginning I could run in the presidential elections,” he said. “The committee did not inform me of anything, and what made them make this decision is treachery and treason.”
